Passion For The Sea

Lee Carlson was born on the Coronado, California Navy base, where his father was an naval officer, and he has been on, around and in boats and water ever since.

Captain Lee holds a U.S. Coast Guard Masters License for both power and sail, and has worked as a professional captain since his teens. He has captained boats on the Great Lakes, the U.S. East Coast from Maine to Florida, and into the islands of Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. He has captained racing sailboats, classic wooden motor yachts, modern sleek European speed-yachts, cruising sailboats and just about everything in-between.

As a writer, Lee is in the great tradition of English-language authors who have gone to sea to learn more about life on land, from Herman Melville to Mark Twain, Jack London, Joseph Conrad, Ernest Hemingway, Herman Wouk, William Golding, and Peter Matthiessen.

He still feels most at home on the water, and spends much of his time on his own boat, on friend's boats or on boats he is captaining.
