Born to Write

Lee Carlson spent his childhood growing up in Buffalo, New York, part of a large, mostly German family clan. Much of his writing and world view stems from the morals, life lessons and no-nonsense midwest sensibility he learned as a child. With many friends and family in the Buffalo area, Lee still thinks of Buffalo as “home.”

Lee has always been success-driven, achieving honors in high school and college, being named a multi-sport captain in in high school, receiving the Headmaster‘s award: a personalized copy of the psychiatrist Rollo May‘s The Courage to Create. Lee graduated from Skidmore college, still not sure if he wanted to be a painter, actor or writer, but knowing that indeed, his life would be spent following a path that would call for the courage to create, however difficult that might be.

Lee Carlson is a Traumatic Brain Injury survivor, a father, a loving partner, a son, a brother, a proud dog owner, a Zen Buddhist and, hopefully, a good friend, not necessarily in that order.

Until recently, Lee lived on a 50-foot sailing catamaran, which doubled as a writer‘s studio, or perhaps a sailor‘s version of a Zen monk's mountain hut. An outdoorsman at heart, when not at his desk writing Lee finds time to sail, ski, mountain climb and go to the beach.
